Bridgette Varin scored two goals and Kirsten Ross and Mae Butler had one each as the University of Rochester defeated RIT, 4-0, in women's soccer at Fauver Stadium.
The Yellowjackets ran their record to 5-1-2 overall and have a seven-match unbeaten streak. Rochester is #16 in this week's Division III poll. RIT is 3-4-1.
Varin opened the scoring at 11:30 in a goalmouth scramble after a corner kick. Butler played the corner to the far right post where Ellen Coleman headed it on goal. RIT goalie Ashley Conti tipped it wide. The ball landed at the feet of Laura Bojko, then bounced up and Varin steered it into the open net.
The Yellowjackets didn't break through for the second goal until the 75:58 mark. Sara Goico raced down the right wing. Her centering pass was broken up. It rolled to Emma Moran just inside the circle. Moran slid it over to Ross who drove a low liner into the right side of the net.
Butler scored the third goal at 81:08 on a 25-yard free kick into the right corner. The kick was awarded after a defender held Bojko as she charged towards goal.
Varin completed the scoring at 87:21. Coleman broke through on the right and slid the ball to the center. Varin collected it, dribbled around the onrushing Conti, and rolled it into the open net.
Rochester held a 20-5 shot advantage and a 9-4 edge on corner kicks. Conti finished with nine saves. Celeste Hornbach had two saves for Rochester.
