FREDONIA, N.Y. - Sara Goico scored two goals, one in the first six minutes, to spark the women's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Penn State Behrend College in the opening round of the Days Inn Tournament at SUNY Fredonia.
Bridgette Varin, Kirsten Ross, and Emma Moran also netted goals for the Yellowjackets. Rochester is 1-1-1 on the season and plays Grove City College in the second round on Saturday.
Goico converted a pass from Laura Bojko at 6:04 for the opening goal. Varin made it 2-0 at 15:58 and Ross scored at 29:42 for a 3-0 lead.
After Behrend scored at 40:09 (Caitlin Tschappat converted a feed from Heather Klimuszka), Moran made it 4-1 just before halftime when she scored at 44:58.
Goico scored her second goal of the match at 66:24.
Rochester held a 25-4 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corners. Celeste Hornbach played the first 26 minutes. She was replaced by Shannon Alderfer who played the final 64:00.
