Visiting Washington University used a 14-0 run midway through the first half to take control in a 73-42 victory over the University of Rochester at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
The Bears, who are the defending NCAA Division III champions, improved to 14-1, 4-0 in the University Athletic Association. Rochester's overall record is 11-4, 2-2 in the UAA.
The Yellowjackets played without injured starters Mike Chmielowiec and Mike Labanowski. Juniors Colin Cubit and John Charlesworth replaced them and each man hit double figures for the second straight game.
Charlesworth scored 13 points, hitting five of ten from the floor and a three-point goal. Cubit had 11 points, four rebounds and two steals.
Aaron Thompson led all scorers with 16 points, including four three-pointers. Washington hit 10 outside the arc. Sean Wallis and Caleb Knepper had two apiece. Knepper scored 11 points. Tyler Nading and Wallis had eight points. Wallis added six assists and three steals.
Seven early points from Charlesworth and five from Cubit pushed Rochester into an early 14-13 lead seven minutes into the game. Wallis found Knepper and Thompson for three-point goals on consecutive possessions. That ignited the game-tunrning 14-0 run. It ended with a pair of free throws from Zach Kelly for a 27-14 lead with 5:47 to go.
