CHICAGO - Bridgette Varin scored twice in the second half to snap a 1-1 tie and spark Rochester to a 3-1 women's soccer victory over the University of Chicago.
Both of Varin's goals - one early in the second half and one with less than five minutes to play - were assisted by Ellen Coleman. Mae Butler scored the first Yellowjacket goal, directly off a corner kick.
The win improved the Yellowjacket record to 9-1-2, 3-0 in the University Athletic Association. Chicago is 9-2-1, 1-1-1 in the UAA. In the current Division III Coaches' Poll, Chicago is ranked 11th and Rochester is ranked 21st.
The host Maroons took a 1-0 lead at 13:11 when Kaitlin Meyer headed home a corner kick. That goal snapped a run of five straight shutouts by the Yellowjackets.
Rochester equalized 23 seconds before the halftime whistle when Butler guided her corner kick directly into the net.
Varin seized the momentum swing less than five minutes into the second half. She collected Coleman's feed and drove a point-blank shot into the net at 49:27. The duo did it again - at 85:35 - with Coleman's cross setting up another point blank Varin goal.
Celeste Hornbach made two saves for Rochester. Emma Gormley made three saves for Chicago. Rochester held a narrow 11-10 edge on shots. Chicago had three corner kicks to Rochester's two.
