MILLERSVILLE, Pa - Rochester scored three times in a span of six minutes midway through the second half and posted a 3-2 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan.
It was a significant victory over a team that is rounding into post-season form. The Battling Bishops got off to a tough start, but had won four in a row entering Sunday's game at Penn Manor High School. North Carolina Wesleyan outscored its foes, 26-7, heading into the Rochester match. The Bishops competed in the NCAA Division III playoffs last season.
Timmer McCarthy had a goal and an assist for Rochester. Jimmy Parrinello and Chris Blivin scored the other Rochester goals. J.J. Dennstedt had one assist.
The NC Wesleyan goals came from Ousman Sarr and Edgar Zaldivar with Javier Castillo and Jimmy Pierce picking up assists.
Michael Peacock played the first 80:30 in the Rochester goal. He made three saves and allowed one goal. Brandon Campbell played the final 9:30. He allowed the second NC Wesleyan goal. Phillip Uttikal went the distance for North Carolina Wesleyan. He saved four Rochester shots.
Rochester improved to 10-1-2 overall. North Carolina Wesleyan is 8-7.
The game was scoreless for more than an hour before Rochester broke through the Bishops' defense. Parrinello opened the scoring at 63:20, knocking home a pass from Dennstedt. McCarthy doubled the lead at 66:48 when he swerved a corner kick directly into the net. The lead grew to 3-0 at 69:20 when McCarthy's chip into the box was headed home by Blivin.
North Carolina Wesleyan fought back. The Bishops scored their first goal at 80:30 with Castillo feeded Sarr for a header. The second NCW goal came with 53 seconds to play, scored by Zaldivar and assisted by Pierce.
