Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Downs Emory 2-0

Scott Cady scored his sixth goal of the season to give the University of Rochester men's soccer team a 1-0 lead and Jake Cargill added an insurance goal with less than 15 minutes to play as the Yellowjackets defeated visiting Emory University 2-0 on Friday night.

After the two sides battled through the first half without scoring a goal, play opened up in the second half. Rochester had two great opportunities to score in the 53rd minute. Scott Cady sent a lead pass towards J.J. Dennstedt just as goalie Trenton Spindler advanced towards the top of the box to play the ball. The ball slipped past Spindler and began to roll towards the goal. Freshman defender David Garofalo sprinted towards the line and cleared the ball right before it crossed. The ball found the foot of Rochester's Steve Welles, who ripped a shot at a seemingly open net from eight feet out. Garofalo quickly got to his feet just as the ball left Welle's foot, and cleared it away with his head.

Rochester could not be denied a goal, though, and kept pressure on Emory's goal. Scott Cady received a Ryan Charcholla throw in and flicked the ball with his head over the top of the Emory defense. Cady's game winner tied him for the team lead with six goals on the season.

With under 12 minutes to play, the Yellowjackets got an insurance goal thanks, in part, to another Charcholla throw in. The sophomore defender sent the ball into the middle of the box as Max Eberhardt made his run. Eberhardt got just enough on the ball to tip it towards an open Jake Cargill, who fired a shot past Spindler for a 2-0 lead.

Michael Peacock played 85 minutes in goal for Rochester before Brandon Campbell relieved him. The Yellowjackets improve to 11-1-2 overall and 4-1-0 in the UAA while Emory drops to 10-4-1 and 1-3-1 in the UAA.

Rochester will return to action on Sunday when they host UAA leader Carnegie Mellon at 11 am for senior day.
