Dennstedt Lifts Yellowjackets to Win in Conference Opener

J.J. Dennstedt's goal in the 25th minute was enough to lift the University of Rochester to a 1-0 victory over NYU in the UAA conference opener for both teams.

The goal, a team leading fifth for Dennstedt, was set up by Misha Carrel-Thomas. Carrel-Thomas sent a perfectly timed ball from the back line over the top of the NYU defense just as Dennstedt made his run. The senior forward lifted the ball over the top of goalie Matt Stieve with his head to give the Yellowjackets the lead.

Rochester had its share of chances to increase its lead. With nine minutes to play in the first half, Max Eberhardt ripped a shot that deflected off the top of the crossbar and out of play. Back and forth play would take over in the second half but the Yellowjacket defense would stand its ground.

Ranked number one in the UAA in both goals allowed per game and goals against average, the Rochester defense kept the Violets at bay throughout the second half to preserve the shutout for goalie Michael Peacock (4 saves), his fifth of the season.

Next, the Yellowjackets (7-0-2 overall, 1-0-0 UAA) will travel east to take on Brandeis University on October 10th at 5 pm. That game is the first of four straight road contests for Rochester before they return home on October 30th to host Emory University.
