The University of Rochester evened its field hockey record at 5-5 with a 5-1 victory over winless Elmira College at Edwin Fauver Stadium Tuesday afternoon.
Christi Bottcher scored one goal and set up two others. Allison Beardsley scored twice for Rochester. The Yellowjackets got single goals from Amanda Case and Melissa Ciurzynski. Sarah Thomassen scored the Elmira goal at 57:25 by knocking it past UR's Morgan Anastasio in a goalmouth scramble.
Danielle Pearson made two saves in 47:13 for Rochester. Anastasio made two saves in 22:47. Jalene McCulloch made 31 saves for the Soaring Eagles. Elmira is 0-9.
Rochester outshot Elmira, 51-6 and held a 21-3 advantage on penalty corners. The Yellowjackets led 3-0 at halftime. Case put Rochester on the board at 6:30, tapping the ball home in a goalmouth scramble. Beardsley made it 2-0 at 7:44, steering home a rebound of a Bottcher shot from the top of the arc.
With three seconds left in the first half Bottcher put home her own rebound. Beardsley turned home a Bottcher pass at 38:05 and Ciurzynski completed the scoring for the Yellowjackets when she circled two defenders and scored from the center of the circle at 47:13.
