Late Run Leads Men's Hoop Win

Marcus Roberson scored eight points down the stretch – six from the foul line – as the University of Rochester held off visiting Case Western Reserve University, 66-58, at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

Roberson finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, his second double-double this season. Mike Chmielowiec led Rochester with 18 points while Nate Novosel had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Max Kaplan had seven points, seven assists, and five steals. Rochester is 15-5 overall, 6-3 in the University Athletic Association. The Yellowjackets are tied with Carnegie Mellon for second place in the UAA standings, three games behind Washington with five left to play.

Reid Anderson and Alex Hildebrandt led the Spartans with 10 points apiece. Case is 6-14 overall, 3-6 in the UAA.

Rochester went on an extended 12-2 run late in the first half to build a 31-20 lead with 1:32 remaining. Novosel and Chmielowiec had four points each in the run. The lead peaked at 13, 35-22, with 10 seconds left. Anderson's three-pointer from the top of the key made it 35-25 at halftime.

It got to 13 twice early in the second half before Case rallied. Two free throws by Novosel left Rochester up, 46-36, with 11:56 to play. Hildebrant scored eight points in a 13-2 run over the next four minutes. His layup with 8:03 remaining put Case ahead, 49-48.

The lead went back and forth for the next two minutes, until a conventional three-point play by Chmielowiec pushed Rochester ahead, 55-53, at 5:48. Roberson made a layup from Kaplan at 3:39, then sank five of six from the line in a span of 72 seconds, stretching the lead to 62-53.
