Women's Soccer Knots St. Lawrence

FREDONIA, N.Y. - Rochester settled for a 1-1 tie in double overtime vs. St. Lawrence in the unofficial championship game of the Clarion Hotel Soccer Classic at SUNY Fredonia.

SLU won the tournament championship on goal difference. The Saints defeated host Fredonia, 3-0, in the opening round on Friday while Rochester edged Penn State Behrend, 1-0, in overtime. SLU was plus-three in goal differential, Rochester plus-one.

Jessica Smith put the Yellowjackets ahead, 1-0, in the 32nd minute. She collected a pass from Ellen Coleman just inside the penalty area, turned quickly, and drove the ball to the far left corner of the net beyond the reach of SLU goalkeeper Abby VanGeldern.

Six minutes into the second half, the Saints drew even. Kristina Peso cut into the box and pushed the ball past a Rochester defender into the path of Marcelle Justison for the equalizer.

Celeste Hornbach made 10 saves for Rochester. Van Geldern had four saves for SLU. Rochester held a 17-15 shot advantage.

For the Yellowjackets (3-0-2), Coleman was named to the All-Tournament Team along with Bridget Varin and Eileen Boylan.
