Scott Cady's fourth goal of the season came thirteen seconds into the game as the University of Rochester defeated RIT 3-1 on Tuesday night at Fauver Stadium.
Cady, who broke through the defense and received a deep pass from J.J. Dennstedt, found himself one on one with RIT goalie Ben Frazier. His quick strike gave Rochester an early advantage.
One minute later, at 43:55, Scott Zorn cleared a long ball down field from ten yards shy of midfield. The ball carried to the edge of the RIT box where Frazier came out to make the play. The ball hit a wet spot on the field, bounced over the head of Frazier, and laid to rest in the back of the net. Zorn's second goal of the season would stand as the eventual game winner.
RIT got on the board at 26:44 of the first half when forward Dom Colaprete beat two Rochester defenders and then goalie Michael Peacock to close the gap to one goal.
Rochester found an answer in the 27th minute when J.J. Dennstedt scored his fourth of the season. Dennstedt's initial cross attempt was blocked down by RIT defenders. The senior midfielder stayed with the play and ripped a low shot underneath a diving Frazier. The two teams would end the half with the score 3-1.
The second half featured back and forth possession play between both sides. The Yellowjackets best opportunity to score came when Misha Carrel-Thomas ripped a shot from outside the box that deflected off the crossbar. The final score would remain at 3-1, improving Rochester's record to 6-0-2 entering their first UAA conference game on Saturday (vs. NYU at 5 pm).
The Yellowjackets outshot the Tigers 17 to 8 and held the advantage in corner kicks (5 to 2).
Rochester's next four matches will be against UAA conference competition.
