Massive Rally Earns 5-4 Field Hockey Win

Anna Dobrzynski swept in a rebound in the sixth minute of sudden death overtime as the University of Rochester rallied to defeat Ithaca College, 5-4, in field hockey at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

The Yellowjackets rallied from a 4-0 halftime deficit to force the extra period. Dobrzynski scored two goals as did Alexis Vangellow. Shelby Hall scored the first Rochester goal.

Tracy Rivas scored twice for Ithaca. Amanada Rissmeyer had a goal and an assist for the Bombers. The final Ithaca goal was scored by Jessica Dillon.

Madison Wagner made 10 saves in 75:56 for Rochester. Kelly Singleton made 18 saves for Ithaca. Rochester is 5-7. Ithaca is 4-6.

The Bombers opened with a scoring burst, getting three goals in the first 11 minutes. Rivas finished a three-person connection by knocking home a pass from Julia Conroy at 5:37. Rivas made it 2-0 at 10:03, driving home a rebound of her own shot. Rissmeyer stretched the lead to 3-0 at 11:17 when she scored on a penalty stroke. It was awarded when a Rochester defender fell on the ball on the goal line during a three-shot flurry. The lead grew to 4-0 at 19:06. Rissmeyer lofted the ball to the left post and Dillon swatted it in.

Rochester climbed back into the match with four goals in just under seven minutes early in the second half. Hall spun to tap the ball inside the left post at 41:55. Vangellow scored both of her goals on rebounds. At 43:50, she scored after a shot came off the post. At 48:00, she scored on a rebound after a penalty corner. Dobrzynski tied the score at 4-4 when she steered home a ball played from the right side by Beardsley.

Indirectly, those two players figured in the winning goal at 75:56. They broke through alone as Singleton charged out to cut down shooting angles. Beardsley fired from right wing. The ball struck the right post and rebounded into the middle. Dobrzynski managed to get a stick on it and touch it home just ahead of Singleton's backwards dive.
