STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Rochester fell victim to a goal in the 10th minute and another midway through the second half as New York University earned a 2-1 victory over the Yellowjackets.
The Violets struck at 9:58 when Rebecca Assing made a diagonal run to head in a free kick from Serra Tumay. The score stayed 1-0 through the first half. At 61;34, Tara Kiernan hit a short pass to Molly Henning who slid in and chipped the ball over Rochester goalkeeper Bridget Lang.
Rochester pulled a goal back with 18 seconds remaining. Danielle Crean's cross from left wing was headed home by Kathryn Rowe at 89:42.
The Yellowjackets had nine corner kicks - all in the second half - to four for NYU. The Violets took 12 shots, five on goal. Rochester had 10 shots, four on goal. Lang made three saves in the Rochester net. Rachael Ross had two saves for NYU and her teammates cleared one ball off the line.
Rochester is 6-3-1 overall, 0-1 in the UAA. NYU is 5-5-1, 1-0 UAA.
