Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Early Scores Thwart Field Hockey in 2-1 Loss

After falling behind early, Rochester's comeback bid fell just short as it fell to Utica College, 1-2, on a Wednesday night game in Fauver Stadium.

With the loss, the 'Jackets drop to 5-9, while Utica moves to an even 7-7 record on the season. The Pioneers game into the game against UR on a two-game win streak, while the Yellowjackets had just dropped an overtime decision to Wooster.

All three goals came in the first 35 minutes of play, with Utica opening the scoring just over 10 minutes into the game. A rocketing shot from Sarah Keller at 11:10 into the period from the left side of the goal just 10 yards out gave Utica a 1-0 lead early in the game.

It appeared the 'Jackets had tied it up not long after when Allison Beardsley's shot from the left side of the arc found the back of the goal, but the goal was called off for being too high.

The Pioneers extended their lead to two less than 20 minutes later, when leading goal scorer Mallory Mariano took advantage of a rebound on the left side of the goal, putting the ball into the top shelf of UR's goal past Madison Wagner.

Wagner finished the game with four saves.

The 'Jackets quickly regrouped, however, thanks to leading goal scorer Anna Dobrzynski. Beardsley set up a shot off of a penalty corner that was deflected right to Dobrzynski, who slid the ball past Utica goalie Monica Storms for her 10th goal of season with just over six minutes left in the half. Shots stood at 9-4 Utica at the half, and the Pioneers would hold a 11-7 advantage for the entire 70 minutes of play.

Next up for the Yellowjackets is a two-game Liberty League road trip – UR will return home on Oct. 27 to face Houghton College and will close out the regular season with two more games at home.
