ATLANTA – Emory University scored three times in less than six minutes in the latter stages of the second half to pull away to a 4-0 victory over the University of Rochester on Friday evening.
The Eagles improved to 13-1-2 overall, 2-1-2 in the University Athletic Association. Rochester is 8-2-5 overall, 1-2-2 in the UAA. Emory entered the match ranked #14 in the Division III Coaches Poll and #2 in the South Atlantic Region. Rochester was ranked #1 in the East Region and #7 nationally.
Nao Masuda scored three times for Emory. He put the hosts ahead, 1-0, at 57:23 by driving home a corner kick from Christopher Howie. Masuda made it 2-0 at 74:04, driving the ball inside the far post.
Nick Jones increased the Emory lead to 3-0 at 77:21 after redirecting a free kick by Andrew Natalino. Masuda completed his hat trick at 79:44 with David Garofalo getting the assist.
Mike Moranz made five saves in goal for Rochester. Trenten Spindler made three saves for Emory.
The Eagles outshot the Yellowjackets, 15-9. Rochester held an 8-4 edge on corner kicks.
