CLERMONT, Fla. - Sara Hutchinson and Madeline Skellie turned in strong pitching performances Saturday as Rochester defeated Eastern Connecticut State and Keene State in softball, both by the score of 4-2.
The Yellowjackets broke on top as early as possible against Eastern Connecticut State, pushing four runs across in the first inning.
Juliana Nicholson hit a bases loaded single to score Erin Clark and Katie McLean in the opening inning. The next batter, MC Wagner, doubled down the line to clear the bases and score Kim Grimes and Nicholson.
Four runs were more than enough support for Hutchinson. The junior pitcher threw seven strong innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out eight.
Nicholson finished with a pair of RBI's and run scored.
In the second game, Skellie scattered three hits over five innings with seven strikeouts. Both runs against her were unearned. Hutchinson picked up a save in the second game, allowing one hit, no walks, and getting four strikeouts in two innings.
McLean drove in two runs against Keene State. She was 2-for-3. Grimes had one hit and one RBI. Clark, Wagner, Lindsay Macaluso, and Cara Celorio all had one hit apiece. One Rochester run was unearned. The Yellowjackets are 7-7 and tangle with Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday.
