ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The University of Rochester opened play in the UAA Softball Championsips with n 8-0 victory over Case Western Reserve University.
Sara Hutchinson and Madeline Skellie combined on a two-hitter for the Yellowjackets. Hutchinson worked the first four innings, yielding one hit and striking out four. Skellie worked the fifth, whiffing two.
Rochester's offensive cause was aided by Kim Grimes and Lindsay Macaluso who each had two hits and drove in two runs. Juliana Nicholson scored twice for Rochester. Brittany Hylen had two RBIs.
Rochester scored a pair of first inning runs after infield errors. Nikki Lee DiSalvio was credited with an RBI on the second one. Lindsay Macaluso doubled home Nicholson in the bottom of the second to make it 3-0.
The Yellowjackets broke it wide open with five runs in the fourth. Erin Clark singled and Nicholson followed with a double putting runners at second and third. Hylen doubled home two runs. A third run eventually scored on an illegal pitch. Grimes homered to right center for two more RBIs.
