CORTLAND, N.Y. - SUNY Cortland scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap a 4-4 tie and sweep a softball doubleheader against Rochester on Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Dragons, ranked No. 11 in the current NFCA poll, took the opener 4-0 and won game two, 8-4. Katie Finch picked up the win in both games. She tossed a two-hitter in the opener, then earned the game two win after Rochester nicked her for two runs to tie the score in the fifth inning.
Down 4-2 heading into the fifth, Rochester got even. Cara Celorio tripled. Lindsay Macaluso walked and promptly stole second. Katie McLean singled, scoring Celorio and moving Macaluso to third. She eventually scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
Rochester scored single runs in the first two innings. In the second inning, M.C. Wagner hit her first home run of the spring. Cortland matched the run each time, then scored twice in the third to take a 4-2 lead. It stayed that way until Rochester's rally in the fifth.
In the Cortland sixth, three singles loaded the bases with no outs. A single brought home two runs and a throwing error on a relay let in the third. The fourth run came home on another single.
The Yellowjackets will host Buffalo State College on Wednesday at 3 pm at GLC Field.
