BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Rochester rallied to take the lead three different times in game one before Brockport rallied to win, 9-8, in the first game of a doubleheader. The Golden Eagles won the nitecap, 5-2.
The Yellowjackets trailed, 3-1, through the first six innings of the opener before rolling up five runs in the top of the seventh for a 6-3 lead. Katie McLean drove in one on an RBI grounder, Nikki DiSalvio hit a sacrifice fly, and Kim Grimes hit a three-run home run to left field.
In the bottom of the seventh, Brockport scored three, all coming on home runs – a two run shot and a solo drive. A squeeze bunt by Lindsay Macaluso scored Natalee Sassaman in the top of the ninth for a 7-6 lead, but Brockport matched it in the bottom of the ninth. In the 10th, M.C. Wagner doubled home Erin Clark for an 8-7 edge. Brockport's runner moved to third base on the inning's first out. Two intentional walks loaded the bases, and the Golden Eagles hit back to back singles to win it.
Wagner was 3 for 5 in the opener and DiSalvio drove in a pair of runs. Sara Hutchinson worked the first eight and two-thirds. She gave up nine hits, seven runs (five earned), walked three, and struck out three. Madeline Skellie pitched two-thirds of an inning (she relieved with two outs in the ninth). She gave up two hits, two runs, and walked two.
Brockport jumped ahead, 5-1, in the second inning of the nitecap. The Golden Eagles used a hit batsman and five hits to score. Rochester scored its first run in the second (Sassaman singled home pinch runner Nicole Goldman). In the fifth, Sassaman was hit by a pitch, bunted to second, and scored on a double by Cara Celorio. Skellie went the distance in game two for Rochester.
The Yellowjackets are 22-15 and waiting on a makeup date of their doubleheader vs. RPI. Brockport is 26-8.
