Softball Splits at Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. - Madeline Skellie and Sara Hutchinson combined on a four-hitter in game two as Rochester split a softball doubleheader at Geneseo. The Knights won game one, 5-2, and the Yellowjackets took the nitecap, 4-3.

Skellie pitched four-hit ball over five innings to pick up her fifth win of the season. She gave up three runs (one earned), walked two, and struck out two. Hutchinson came on with two aboard in the sixth and no outs. She retired the first two hitters before the Knights scored twice after an error by Rochester. She retired the final hitter in the sixth and set down the Knights in order in the seventh.

Rochester got a run in the first. Lindsay Macaluso singled and moved to second on a groundout by Kate McLean. She went to third on Nikki Lee DiSalvio's flyout to right and scored on a single by Kim Grimes.

In the Rochester second, Juliana Nicholson singled and Melissa Altemose doubled. MC Wagner bounced out to the mound, scoring Nicholson. Altemose took third and scored on a wild pitch.

The final Rochester run came in the third. McLean singled. DiSalvio forced her at second. Sam Melvin pinch-ran for DiSalvio. She went to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a groundout by Grimes. Melvin came home on an error.

In game one, Nicholson drew a bases-loaded walk in the first for a 1-0 Rochester lead. Geneseo scored one in the second to tie it, then got two more in the third for a 3-1 lead. DiSalvio hit an RBI double with two down in the fourth to get Rochester within 3-2. Geneseo scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to extend the lead.
