SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Homestanding Union College produced a goal in the fourth minute of the second sudden death overtime period to edge Rochester, 3-2, in field hockey on Friday afternoon.
The Yellowjackets fought back from a 2-0 deficit in the last 18 minutes of regulation to force the overtime. Rochester is 3-3 overall, 0-1 in the Liberty League. All three losses have come in overtime.
Kristin O'Connor scored two goals for Union, including the matchwinning goal at 88:10. Isabel Zellweger put the hosts ahead at 21:00, turning home a pass from Kelsey Powers. O'Connor made it 2-0 at 28:17 with Nicole Mergliano assisting.
Rochester got on the scoreboard at 52:27. Shelby Hall scored on a long shot from the wing. It was her third goal of the season. The Yellowjackets got even at 63:05. Anisha Gundewar's penalty corner was knocked into the circle. Allison Beardsley got to a rebound and drove it under the dive of Union goaltender Sarah Rios.
Madison Wagner made 13 saves for Rochester. Rios had 12 saves for the Dutchwomen. Union held a slim 25-21 edge in shots. The Yellowjackets had nine penalty corners to Union's four.
