SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Skidmore College, ranked 14th in the current Division III poll, scored three late goals to pull away from Rochester for a 5-1 field hockey victory.
The Thoroughbreds scored three times in a span of nine minutes in the latter stages of the second half and short-circuited any attempts the Yellowjackets had of trying to tie the score. Skidmore improved to 6-1 overall, 3-0 in the Liberty League. Rochester is 3-4 overall, 0-2 in the Liberty League. It is the first regulation time loss for Rochester this year.
Darragh Kerr scored the Rochester goal, assisted by Anna Dobrzynski. She deflected the ball into the net after a penalty corner at 30:40. That cut Skidmore's lead to 2-1. The Thoroughbreds scored 40 seconds into the match (Annie Rosencrans), then tacked on a second goal at 21:43.
Katie Potter scored at 56:08 for Skidmore. O'Brien made it 4-1 at 59:28, and Kelly Blackhurst scored at 65:14.
Madison Wagner made 10 saves in the Rochester net. Anisha Gundewar had a defensive save. Liz Catinella made three saves and allowed one goal in the first 68:03 for Skidmore. Margaux Hoagland played the final 1:57.
