Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Blanked by Oneonta

Visiting Oneonta scored midway through the second half and held on for a hard-fought 1-0 women's soccer victory over the University of Rochester in the Flower City Tournament.

The result puts Rochester into Sunday's 11 am match vs. Medaille for third place. Oneonta will play Rutgers-Newark for the title at 1:30 pm. Rutgers-Newark downed Medaille, 4-2, in the first game of the day.

Nha Wright converted a 25-yard free kick at 59:33 for the game's only goal. She drove the ball from the left, just outside the penalty area, inside the near post with a group of players from both sides in the goalmouth.

Rochester had two good chances to equalize in the later minutes. With just under 14 minutes to play, the Yellowjackets broke through, three on one, at Oneonta goalkeeper Jamie Chyat (three saves). Marissa Braverman's shot from right wing was wide of the right upright. With under four minutes left, Rochester earned a corner kick. Emily Hallam lifted it into the center of the box, past Chyat who ran to the near post. Ellen Coleman couldn't get an open shot and her deflection went over the crossbar with two Oneonta defenders on the line.

Goalkeeper Bridget Lang denied Oneonta the chance to take an early 1-0 lead. In the sixth mninute, Dana DeSimone broke through. Lang charged out of the net and slid onto the ball just as DeSimone got to it.

Later in the half, a Rochester giveaway along the sideline was picked up by Oneonta's Jennifer Fox. She slid the ball through the penalty area. Melissa Guglielmo got to it, but shot just wide of the left post.
