Rochester posted its third straight shutout win to open the men's soccer season as the Yellowjackets defeated SUNY Oneonta, 1-0, in the Flower City Classic.
Freshman goalkeeper Mike Moranz made two saves to pick up his second straight win. The defense was strong, organized in the back by senior Misha Carrel-Thomas. The other starting defenders were Jake Cargill, Andrew Roberts, and Tom Sorrentino. As a unit, Rochester held Oneonta to eight shots, two on goal.
Senior Jimmy Parrinello scored the gamewinning goal in the 19th minute. Rochester earned a free kick straight out, 25 yards from goal. Parrinelloi guided the ball over the wall and into the right corner of the net.
Robert Eberhardt had two chances to extend the lead in the second half, one on a nice diagonal run. His shot on the turn went just wide of the left post.
Oneonta goalkeeper Max Siegelman made three saves.
Rochester won the tournament championship with six points from two wins.
