'Jackets Storm to 5-0 Victory at Ithaca

The last time the Yellowjackets faced the Ithaca Bombers, they were down 4-0 in the first half. They came back to win that game, 5-4, in overtime.

This time, UR got the win, without the comeback — they shut out the 2-9 Bombers on the road, 5-0, scoring three goals in the first half and two in the second.

Just over eight minutes into the game, senior back Alexis Vangellow snagged the team's first goal, and freshman midfielder Belle Hoagland its first assist. About seven and a half minutes later, senior captain and midfielder/forward Allison Beardsley netted a shot from a pass by senior forward Shelby Hall. Beardsley scored her second goal of the game just eight minutes later.

In the second half, freshman midfielder Megan Keil recorded her fifth goal of the season. Vangellow earned the assist off of the penalty corner. With just under three minutes left in the game, Beardsley crossed the ball to senior forward Anna Dobrzynski, who scored the team's fifth and final goal of the game. Dobrzynski leads the 'Jackets with 15 goals and Beardsley with 15 assists.

UR's defense was just as strong as its offense, recording its fourth shutout of the season. Madison Wagner made five saves. Ithaca goaltender Kelly Singleton had five saves as well and the Bombers also recorded a defensive save.

The Yellowjackets, now 10-5, return to Liberty League play this Saturday at Union College where they will strive to combine their solid offensive and defensive performances as they did in the Wednesday afternoon win over Ithaca.
