Osuch Shines in Senior Day Draw

ROCHESTER, NY- Rochester senior day for the men's soccer team ended with a draw, but a UR senior stole the show in his last home game.  Alex Osuch scored two goals and had many more chances, but Rochester and Kean University battled to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon at Fauver Stadium.

The Cougars (10-5-3) got off to a quick start when just over two minutes in, freshman Erickson Simeon lobbed a 25-yard shot from the left side just over the outstretched hands of Yellowjacket goalie Alex Sandler.  The goal was Simeon's team leading 10th of the year for Kean.

The Yellowjackets (8-3-2) quickly answered when senior day honoree Osuch slammed in his first goal of the year to tie the game.  The play started when Max Fan dribbled past a defender on the left wing and centered a pass to Osuch who calmly slid the ball under the diving Kean keeper Tyler Callahan.

Rochester nearly made it three quick goals total to start the game, senior Max Eberhardt just missed high on a header off a ball that was hit up in the air multiple times following a UR corner.

Kean had the next chance in the back and forth game when Albert Dul caught keeper Sandler out of position chasing a ball on the left wing.  He ended up firing a ball at the open net that was stopped by Sandler who sprinting back into position.

Once again, Rochester was able to answer with another excellent scoring chance when Osuch nearly got his second goal of the day.  His header in the 17th minute off a centering pass from freshman Shane Dobles hit the crossbar.

Much of the remaining time in the first half was played in the Rochester scoring zone with multiple scoring chances coming off corners from junior Jakob Seidlitz, freshman Ben Keeton and sophomore JC Billone.  The Kean goalie and defenders held strong to keep the score tied at 1-1 to end the first 45 minutes.

The second half got off to an exciting start when the Rochester goalie took out an attacking Kharee Winslow in the box resulting in a yellow card and a penalty shot for the Cougars.  Junior Abner Denis was chosen for the PK and he nonchalantly kicked it into the back of the net, giving Kean a 2-1 lead.

Rochester had another chance to tie the game but Seidlitz's shot hit the crossbar in the 65th minute.  The physical play of the game led to a Kean yellow card but Seidlitz and Rochester couldn't capitalize on the free kick opportunity.

UR hit the crossbar for a third time in the game when a Max Fan free kick just skimmed the bar, keeping the score in favor of the Cougars.

The Yellowjackets recorded the equalizer when a freekick was awarded about 20 yards out was headed in by Osuch.  The play started when Eberhardt tried to squeeze by a defender but was fouled.  That initiated the set piece by Seidlitz who centered a perfect ball right to the senior who recorded his second goal of the day and forced the sudden death overtime.

In the first 10-minute OT, Josh Richards got a chance when he streaked open down the right sideline with Osuch charging alone towards the net, Richards looked to pass to the senior for the hat trick, but the pass was kicked away by a defender.  The same two almost won the game again for Rochester when Richards centered the ball, this time getting it to Osuch who just missed the net with a header wide.

Kean had a great chance to finish the game on two occasions.  The first was when Simeon fired a rocket from 23 yards out in the 108th minute.  Tuilo Pinto also had an opportunity to end the game, but his shot at the net was punched to safety by a diving Sandler.

In the nets, Sandler made seven saves for UR, Callahan recorded three for Kean.

Rochester ends the season with three road contests, all within the UAA conference, starting with Washington University in St. Louis on October 28th.
