ST. LOUIS - Host Washington University erupted for two goals in the first five minutes of the second half - three over the first 10 minutes - and went on to a 5-1 victory over the University of Rochester at Francis Field on Friday night.
The win boosted Washington's record to 13-4 overall, 3-2 in the UAA. The Bears have to play Case and Chicago to finish the season. Washington sits behind Emory and Case in the UAA standings. Rochester is 8-6 overall, 2-3 in the UAA.
Kathryn Rowe put the Yellowjackets ahead in the second minute of play. She connected on a left-footed shot from 25 yards out at 1:12. Washington's Lillie Toaspern scored the first of her three consecutive goals at 10:40. She settled the ball in the box, turned, and scored.
Toaspern broke the tie at 46:41, then made it 3-1 at 49:33. Emma Brown assisted on both goals. Brown drove home a rebound of Lauren Steimie's shot at 54:14 for a 4-1 edge and Jessica Johnson knocked in a rebound of Kate Doyle's shot at 59:11.
Bridget Lang made four saves in 56:51.
Allison Bernstein played the final 33:09. Clara Jacques made seven saves for Washington.
The Bears had seven corner kicks to two for Rochester. Washington held a 20-16 edge on shots at goal.
