Alex Swanger picked a perfect time to score his first collegiate goal on Saturday. Swanger broke through late in the second sudden death overtime to give Rochester a 1-0 victory at Clarkson University.
The Yellowjackets earned a split of their two games in the North Country. Rochester is 3-1 overall and returns to Fauver Stadium on Tuesday to face RIT.
Swanger broke through on a 4-on-3 break in the waning minutes and slotted a hard grounder into the net and beyond the reach of Clarkson goalkeeper Saverino Spagnolo. The goal came at 108:28 – just 92 seconds before the match would have ended in a scoreless tie.
Spagnolo made 11 saves.
Scott Garfing registered three saves for the Yellowjackets. Rochester held a 17-6 overall shot advantage, 12-3 in shots on goal. The Yellowjackets had 10 corner kicks and did not give one up.
