Katie Flaschner swept in a pass from
Allison Beardsley 10 minutes into sudden death overtime to give the University of Rochester a 3-2 victory over visiting Nazareth College at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
The goal capped a comeback win for the Yellowjackets who trailed, 2-0, at halftime. Rochester improved to 3-0. Nazareth, which lost its opener to William Smith, is 0-2.
Lindsey Smith had a goal and assist in a span of six minutes in the first half to put Nazareth on top. At 20:17, she pushed a pass ahead to Kailee O'Hara who beat Rochester goaltender
Madison Wagner to the low right corner. Six minutes later, Nina Fargnoli picked up a deflected penalty corner and pushed it across the top of the circle where Smith drove it inside the left post (26:31).
Rochester's first goal came at 41:26.
Belle Hoagland passed to
Anna Dobrzynski and her rising shot deflected off Nazareth goaltender Sophia Rhoades into the top part of the cage. The Yellowjackets evened the score at 57:16. In a goalmouth scramble,
Megan Keil nudged the ball to the left where
Alexis Vangellow hit it into the unguarded corner of the goal.
Rochester outshot Nazareth, 14-2, 12-0 in the second half and OT. The Yellowjackets had 12 penalty corners to three for the Golden Flyers. Rhoades made seven saves. Wagner did not make any.
