Senior night turned out to be a celebration on many fronts for the women's volleyball team at the University of Rochester Wednesday night. The Yellowjackets saluted their five seniors before the match, then went out and defeated Nazareth College, 3-1, with the Class of 2012 playing big roles.
Rochester won, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, to improve to 18-9. The Yellowjackets will play in the New York Regional Challenge at NYU in one week's time, then head for Atlanta, Georgia and the UAA Championships at Emory University on the first weekend of November.
Nazareth is 17-10 overall. This was the second meeting of the season between the rivals. Rochester rallied to defeat Nazareth, 3-2, in the second round of the Cortland Red Dragon Invitational back on Labor Day weekend. Nazareth came into the Palestra having won four of five and 11 of the last 13.
Kelly Mulrey finished with a match-high 23 kills for Rochester.
Alma Guevara had seven kills.
Lauren Bujnicki had 24 digs.
Meghan Neff had three kills and two block assists.
Claire Donohue had four kills.
Savannah Benton had 11 kills and
Sara Ribakove contributed six kills plus 10 digs. Mulrey had 11 digs.
Jennie Ford recorded 42 assists.
Dori Rohan had three service aces.
For Nazareth, Aubrey Cooke and Maria Allocco had 11 kills each. Jennifer Goodman had 12 digs, Olivia Harrington had 11 digs, and Brittany Crocetti had 10 digs plus 30 assists. Amy Johnson had four service aces.
