Spikers Get Two Wins at Regional Challenge



NEW YORK, N.Y. - Rochester opened play in the New York Regional Challenge at NYU with a 3-0 victory over Mount St. Vincent College Friday afternoon and followed that with a 3-2 win over Clarkson University later that evening.

Against Mt. St. Vincent, the scores were 25-16, 25-11, 25-12. Against Clarkson, the Yellowjackets came out on top, 17-25, 25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12.

In the Mt. St. Vincent match, Savannah Benton had 12 kills and Kelly Mulrey added 11. Both hit over .400. Benton hit .409 and Mulrey hit .435. Meghan Neff chipped in seven kills with a .545 hitting percentage.,

Xiaoyi Li had 35 assists. Lauren Bujnicki had 11 digs. Mulrey had seven digs and Sara Ribakove had eight digs, two blocks, and five kills. Neff had two blocks. Mulrey added three service aces.

Later Friday evening, the Yellowjackets beat a very good Clarkson team. The Golden Knights were 24-5 entering the match and had won nine of their last 10 matches. Alma Guevara led the way with 14 kills. Mulrey had 13, Ribakove 12, and Benton 10. Rochester hit .250 as a team with Benton's .400 hitting percentage the best of the attackers.

Li recorded 43 assists. Bujnicki had 26 digs and two aces. Mulrey had 15 digs, Ribakove had 16, and Paige Idziur had 10. Li dug nine balls. The block leaders were Neff and Benton with four apiece. Mulrey had three blocks.

Rochester improved to 20-9 with the two wins. Mt. St. Vincent was 11-14 after the loss to Rochester.
