UR Tops Kean 2-0 In Men's Soccer

UNION, NJ- Goals from sophomores Nick Pastore and Alex Swanger helped the University of Rochester men's soccer team upend Kean University 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The win improved Rochester's record to 8-2-3 on the season and helps the Yellowjackets to stretch their unbeaten streak to seven games.  Over that timeframe, UR is 4-0-3 including a win and two ties against three top 10 ranked teams.

Pastore got the Yellowjackets on the board first at 18:50 in the first half when he put in a ground ball shot past Kean keeper Tyler Callahan.  His goal was set up by two great chances by classmate Jack Thesing just before whose header hit the crossbar and then was blocked by a defender.  The ball then settled to Swanger who passed the ball back to Pastore who fired the into the bottom left corner of the net.  The tally was Pastore's third of the 2012 campaign.

Kean nearly had the equalizer in the 78th minute when Pat Foley fired a shot that careened off the UR crossbar and safely away.

Swanger then was able to put the Cougars (9-9) away with an insurance goal in the 86th minute.  The goal, his fifth of the year came off a 12 yard shot past a diving Callahan.  The pass came from Thesing who picked up his team leading 18th point on the year.

Scott Garfing made three stops for the 'Jackets in goal for his sixth shutout of the season and 16th of his career.  Callahan made two stops for Kean.

Rochester next faces off at home this upcoming weekend with UAA conference matchups against Washington University in St. Louis (Friday) and the University of Chicago (Sunday) which could play huge roles in deciding UR's postseason hopes.
