There were 5 goals and 5 cards issued as the Yellowjackets win 4-1 against the University of Chicago (8-4-4, 2-3-1 UAA).
The University of Rochester looked to score within the first ten minutes on a long cross from
Nick Pastore looking for
Alex Swanger sliding into the back post. The cross was just off the toe of Swanger and the Maroons breathed a sigh of relief. However, with 21:14 left in the first half UR went up 1-0 on a
Max Fan goal that was masterfully sent in on a through ball from Swanger.
Chicago returned the favor with a goal one minute later when Kevin Matheny lobbed a ball into the box that was headed by Nick Codispoti only to be punched into the crossbar by
Scott Garfing who lost his footing as the ball bounced back into play when Kyle Kurfist dove head
first through the box to head the ball into the goal tying the game 1-1. Rochester attempted continue the scoring frenzy when
Andrew Sheridan sent a low and fast cross into
Jack Thesing who heeled the ball toward the net, but he was denied by Chicago's goal keeper, David Cohen.
To round out the scoring in the first half, Swanger carried the ball down the right side and put the ball at the feet of
Shane Dobles in the box, who used the goal post to his advantage to put the ball into the top right corner of the net, putting the Yellowjackets up 2-1.
UR carried their offensive momentum into the second half as they threatened early with two solid header chances by Thesing and Swanger, but both attempts went over the crossbar.
Jeffrey Fafinski increased Rochester's lead half way through the second half when Sheridan sent a long ball into the box that was fumbled by Cohen. Fafinski took advantage of the mistake and tapped the ball into the open net. Two minutes later Rochester was on Chicago's doorstep again when
Max Eberhardt took a chance at the goal that was pushed away by Cohen to the feet of
Jakob Seidlitz who rifled the rebound to the right side of the open net but Michael Choquette was there to make the defensive save for the Maroons.
The last goal for the Yellowjackets came off a steaming penalty shot by Seidlitz with 5:39 left in the game following a yellow card given in the box to Matheny who slide tackled Swanger. This was the first of the 4 cards. Chicago received two more yellow cards (leading to a red card), a yellow card for the bench, and Rochester received a yellow card with 2:26 remaining.
Chicago attempted one last push at the end of the game when Matheny sent a high ball into the Rochester box that was headed by Choquette just over the crossbar.
UR moved to 9-3-3 (2-1-3, UAA) on the season and play the Spartans of Case Western Reserve (3-12-1, 0-5 UAA) Friday, November 3.
