Hot Shooting Leads UR Men Past Nazareth

The University of Rochester men's basketball team rode some hot shooting to a 98-64 victory over Nazareth College on Tuesday night.

The Yellowjackets (3-0) shot a blistering 64% from the floor and 60% from beyond the arc to stop a three game losing skid to the Golden Flyers (2-1).

UR was paced by John DiBartolomeo's 23 points, 8 assists, 4 steals and 3 rebounds.  Sophomore Tyler Seidman did not miss a shot (5-5 FG) en route to 12 points on the night.  Rob Reid provided 10 points and eight rebounds.

The home 'Jackets got off to a great start, jumping out to an 11-0 lead in the first three minutes.  Nazareth looked to get back into it with a 10-2 run the middle four minutes of the half before a Nate Vernon three point play stopped that with 8:01 to play in the half.

A late 14-2 run in the half built the Yellowjacket lead to 21 at the half.  At the break UR had three players in double figures.  DiBartolomeo finished the half with 17 points on 7-13 shooting.  Maurice Mills had 12 points (3-3 FG) to lead Naz in the opening half.

In the second half, the Yellowjackets were able to stretch the lead to 30 five minutes in behind two DiBartolomeo 3-pointers and two Reid baskets.

The hot shooting continued as the lead ballooned to 40 when freshman Kyle Reardon made a long ball at 10:31 remaining.  Over the last 10 minutes, Head Coach Luke Flockerzi was able to get his reserves some key minutes which will come in handy later in the season.  UR went on to just miss the century mark in points, but still set a season high in the scoring column.

UR ended up shooting 38-59 from the floor and 12-20 behind the arc.  Rochester was also 10-11 from the free throw line (91%).  Nazareth was 22-51 from the floor (43%) and hit 5-15 three pointers.  Rochester held a 22-9 assist edge and grabbed seven more rebound that the Golden Flyers (29-22).

Brad Ford led Naz with 16 points and eight rebounds while Jack Giles had 13 points and three assists.

Up next for the Yellowjackets is the Holiday Inn Airport Tournament to be held this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.  The tournament features the Yellowjackets, SUNY Cobleskill, Ohio Wesleyan and Otterbein.
