ONEONTA, NY- The University of Rochester used a career high 23 points from guard
Ally Zywicki to get past Oneonta State 61-51 on Wednesday evening.
Zywicki made six three's and grabbed a career best nine rebounds to help push the Yellowjackets to 6-1 on the year. UR is riding a four game winning streak. Oneonta drops to 4-4 on the season.
The Red Dragons got off to a quick start, jumping ahead 8-1 in the first four minutes before Zywicki made a four point play to cut the lead to three.
Halfway through the half, UR used a 15-2 run to jump ahead 28-20. Two more Zywicki shots from behind the arc finished off that run. Once the Yellowjackets got ahead, it was a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the game. At the half, UR led by 13, 41-28.
Oneonta would be stuck on that 28 point mark for nearly six minutes after missing five shots, two free throws and committing three turnovers on both sides of halftime. With 14:21 left in the game, UR's lead was pushed to a game high 18 when
Emily Trapani nailed a jumper, making the score 49-31.
The Red Dragons worked all the way back within six though, using a 16-4 run over 11 minutes late in the game. Kristin Pappalardo produced seven points in the burst.
UR used some solid free throw shooting down the stretch to seal the deal. The Yellowjackets made seven in a span of 51 seconds to maintain a comfortable lead.
Behind Zywicki's 23, Trapani chipped in eight points and both
Jackie Walker and
Amy Woods added seven. Walker and Zywicki led the Yellowjackets with nine rebounds each. Entering the game, UR leads the nation in rebounding margin (15.8). UR outrebounded the Red Dragons 48-36 on the night.
The Red Dragons only had one player in double figures with Lyteshia Price pouring in 12 points. Pappalardo finished with nine and Kelly Mulligan added eight points and six rebounds.
The Yellowjackets will close out the semester with two more games, the first at Oswego on Saturday and then the last being a tilt against RIT on Tuesday in the Palestra. Then after the holidays, UR will face off at Buffalo State on December 30th.
