OSWEGO, N.Y. – Rochester couldn't find an offensive rhythm, shooting under 25% from the floor, and lost, 53-41 to unbeaten SUNY Oswego on Saturday afternoon.
The loss came just days after Rochester posted victories over two SUNYAC teams – Geneseo, 60-58, to win the Wendy's Classic, and 61-51 at Oneonta on Wednesday evening. Rochester had a five-game winning streak snapped. The Yellowjackets are 6-2 overall and host RIT on Tuesday.
Oswego improved to 7-0 and has not given up more than 48 points in any of the seven wins. Megan Stover led the Lakers with 20 points and Lauren Nunziato scored 16. She pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Lakers held a 44-40 advantage on the backboards. Oswego hit 20 of 54 from the floor (37%). Rochester made just 14 of 59 from the floor (24%).
Ally Zywicki led Rochester with 14 points and
Loren Wagner was the top rebounder with 10 boards.
Oswego opened the game on a 7-0 run in the first two minutes. Rochester narrowed the gap to two points on a putback by
Paige Aleski with just over eight minutes to play in the first period. Five straight points from Zywicki – a pair of free throws plus a conventional three-point play after a steal – got it down to 19-18 with five minutes left in the half. Oswego led, 29-21, at halftime.
