'Jackets Open With 5-0 Win Over Kenyon

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Freshman Michelle Relin and sophomore Megan Keil scored two goals apiece this afternoon as Rochester opened the field hockey season with a 5-0 victory over Kenyon College at Syracuse University.

The match was originally scheduled at Rochester. It was moved to Syracuse so that the teams could watch a match between Syracuse and North Carolina, two of Division I's top five programs.

Freshman Maura O'Connor scored the final Rochester goal. Assists came from Sarah Dixon, Katie Flaschner, and Teresa Russell.

Rochester outshot the Lords, 35-3. Madison Wagner played all 70 minutes in goal. She made three saves. Alex Britt went the distance for Kenyon. She made 15 saves.

Relin scored her first collegiate goal at 14:12 to open the scoring. Sarah Dixon played the ball off a penalty corner to Relin who shot from the left side of the circle.

Keil made it 2-0 just 37 seconds before halftime (34:23). Shelby Hall took a shot that Britt knocked down. Keil was there to tuck the rebound inside the left post.

Two goals in less than a two-minute stretch opened the margin in the second half. Keil scored at 47:31, collecting a pass from katie Flaschner and scoring in traffic in front of the cage. At 49;24, Relin dribbled into the circle and struck her goal from the top right.

O'Connor completed the scoring at 66:51, taking a Russell pass to the middle and scoring from directly in front of the cage.

Rochester hosts SUNY Oswego in Fauver Stadium on Sunday at 6 pm.
