HENRIETTA, N.Y. - Rochester defeated St. Lawrence, 3-0, and Bluffton, 3-1, to get off to a good start at the 24th annual RIT Women's Volleyball Invitational on Friday. The Yellowjckets defeated St. Lawrence, 25-15, 27-25, 25-16, then defeated Bluffton, 25-22, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20.
Against St. Lawrence, the attacking game was crisp with three players getting nine or more klills.
Alma Guevara had nine kills as did
Savannah Benton.
Kelly Mulrey led everyone on the floor with 15 kills.
Mulrey also had three service aces and nine digs. Benton and
Xiaoyi Li had two block assists.
Sara Ribakove had one block solo and one block assist.
The three dig leaders - all with nine - were Mulrey, Ribakove, and
Lauren Bujnicki. St. Lawrence was 3-7 after the Rochester match.
Against Bluffton, Benton and Guevara had 15 kills apiece as the attacking game continued strongly. Ribakove chipped in 10 kills and 21 digs. Between them, that trio totaled one solo block (bvy Ribakove) and seven block assists - three by Guevara, two each by Benton and Ribakove.
Bujnicki had 28 digs.
Paige Idziur and
Ashley Hunter had nine each. Li registered 48 assists to go along with six digs. Meaghan Neff had four kills and four block assists. Bluffton is 4-6 heading into Saturday's action. Rochester is 8-3. The Yellowjackets will play Medaille College, followed by SUNY Potsdam, on Saturday.
