Rochester split a pair of five-set decisions at the Days Inn Blue Jay Classic hosted by Elizabetown College on Friday night. The Yellowjackets rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win the last two sets and defeat York College of Pennsylvania, 3-2. Then host Elizabetown fought back from a 2-1 deficit to win the match, 3-2 over Rochester.
The Yellowjackets defeated York, 25-21, 21-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-11. They lost to Elizabetown, 22-25, 25-23, 26-24, 22-25, 9-15. Rochester is 12-4 heading into a pair of Saturday matches. York is 3-14, Elizabethtown 11-3.
Against York,
Kelly Mulrey was one of four Rochester players in double figures in kills. She had 19 plus 16 digs.
Savannah Benton had 15 kills and three blocks.
Sara Ribakove had 12 kills and 20 digs.
Alma Guevara had 10 kills and four blocks.
Lauren Bujnicki finished with 29 digs.
In the E-town match, Mulrey had 24 kills and 24 digs.Guevara had 14 kills. RIbakove had 11 kills and 18 digs and Benton added eight kills and six blocks. Bujnicki recorded 30 digs.
Xiaoyi Li, who had 33 assists in the win over York, had 32 assists against E-town. She also had 12 digs.
Jennie Ford had 25 assists and 11 digs in the Elizabethtown match.
Rochester trailed, 23-19, in the third set against Elizabethtown (match was tied at 1-1). Benton and Mulrey had two kills apiece and Guevara followed with one for a 24-23 lead. The Blue Jays tied it before Ford set kills for Mulrey and Guevara to win the third set, 26-24.
