PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Rochester erupted to score four goals in the first 14 minutes of the second half enroute to a 7-2 field hockey victory over Nazareth College on Wednesday evening.
Shelby Hall and
Michelle Relin scored two goals apiece in the burst and that gave them three goals each. Hall added two assists to figure in five of the seven Yellowjacket goals.
Belle Hoagland scored at 7:29 for Rochester, assisted by Hall. Nazareth evened it at 1-1 when Kailee O'Hara scored at the 12:03 mark.
Lindsey Randall set up Hall for the go-ahead goal at 19:14 and Relin followed with her first of the evening at 22:00. It was 3-1 at intermission.
In the second half, Hall scored five minutes into the period, then Relin increased the edge 55 seconds later (41:28). Hall was denied by the post at 42:19. Randall finished with three assists for Rochester.
Relin completed her hat trick at 48:30 and Hall followed 51 seconds later (49:21), pushing the advantage to 7-1. Nazareth's final goal came at 70:00. They scored off a penalty corner by Sarah Wazenkewitz after time expired.
Madison Wagner made two saves for Rochester (3-0) in 54:21. She allowed one goal.
Tara Lamberti played the final 15:39, making one save and allowing one goal. Shannon Winney made 11 saves for the Golden Flyers (1-1).
Rochester outshot Nazareth, 28-6, 18-5 in shots on goal. Each team had 11 penalty corners. The Yellowjackets return to Fauver Stadium on Friday to take on Geneseo (4 pm) and on Sunday to face Oneonta State (12 pm).
