Volleyball Splits on Day 2 of UR Invite



The University of Rochester women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday after winning two on Friday to finish 3-1 at the UR Volleyball Invitational.
 
On Saturday, the Yellowjackets (6-2) fell to New Paltz 3-1 and then stormed back and beat D'Youville 3-0 in the afternoon match.
 
In the opener against New Paltz, The Hawks (6-1) won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-19 before UR battled to win the third 25-22.  In the fourth set, New Paltz took control and won the match by winning 25-13 in the fourth set.
 
Senior Kelly Mulrey led the way for the Yellowjackets with seven kills and 18 digs.  Savannah Benton recorded a team high nine kills.  Three others recorded multiple kills; Alma Guevara, Meghan Neff and Sara Ribakove had seven apiece.
 
Xiaoyi Li had 36 assists and Lauren Bujnicki posted 14 digs.  The Hawks' Eleanor Skovgaard had 16 kills while teammate Dana Vosilla had 13.  Setter Marissa King had 45 assists and teammate Carrie Hack recorded 29 digs.
 
Against D'Youville, Rochester jumped out to a commanding lead and never looked back.  UR won the first set 25-8.  The Spartans (1-6) showed some fight in the next two sets, improving their point total in each game, but eventually falling by scores of 25-14 and 25-16.
 
Guevara posted a team high 12 kills and three aces.  For her performance over the two days, she was named to the All-Tournament Team.  Neff had a team high six block assists and also chipped in four kills.  Li had 26 assists and seven digs as the primary setter in the match.  Bujnicki posted 17 digs while Mulrey chipped in six kills and four digs.
