UR Rallies Topping #12 Brandeis 3-2

WALTHAM, MA- The #25 University of Rochester men's soccer team rallied from a one-goal deficit twice in the game and ended up defeating #12 Brandeis University 3-2 on Saturday, spoiling the Judges homecoming festivities.

The Yellowjackets improve to 9-1-1 (2-0 UAA) while the Judges fall (10-2, 1-1 UAA).  The victory puts Rochester in sole possession of first place in the UAA standings after two games in the schedule.

Freshman Jeff Greblick scored the game winner in the 79th minutes when he headed in a goal off a free kick from junior teammate Shane Dobles.  The score was Greblick's team leading seventh goal of the year.

Greblick also assisted on the tying goal just four minutes earlier by junior Alex Swanger.  After settling the ball just outside the box, Swanger then unleashed a hard shot that found the net just inside the lower right corner.

The Judges would end up striking first on the day, scoring in the 56th minute when Ben Applefield directed a pass from teammate Kyle Feather into the bottom corner of the net, past UR keeper Mike Moranz.

The Yellowjackets would score the equalizer six minutes later when off a free kick, junior Keith Grafmeyer redirected a shot at Brandeis goalie Joe Graffy.  Graffy would end up deflecting the chance right to the foot of sophomore Sean Daly who finished the goal, evening the score at 1-1.

Brandeis responded 1:26 later, regaining the lead when off a corner kick, Tyler Savonen headed in a rebound from teammate Jake Pickard.

The Judges also had a golden chance towards the end of the scoreless first half to get on the board.  Brandeis' Tudor Livadaru chipped a shot over Moranz's head, but just before the score, the ball was cleared away by a Rochester defender.

On the day, Moranz ended with four saves, matching Graffy's total in the Brandeis net.  UR held a 13-12 edge in shots but Brandeis earned the advantage in corners, 5-2.

Rochester's next contests are next Friday and Sunday when the team travels to Chicago and Washington-St. Louis continuing UAA play.
