ST. LOUIS – Rochester had the unfortunate luck to run into fourth-ranked Emory University on Saturday afternoon right after Chicago had beaten Emory in the second University Athletic Association round robin.
The Eagles took their frustrations out on the Yellowjackets, winning, 25-8, 25-11, 25-14. In Rochester's first match, NYU posted a 3-1 victory (18-25, 25-11, 25-15, 25-11). Rochester takes an overall mark of 8-20 (0-5 UAA) into Sunday's action with Case Western Reserve and Carnegie Mellon waiting in the wings. Results from the two round robins will determine the seedings for the UAA championships in early November at Brandeis University.
Against NYU,
Savannah Benton had 13 kills, three blocks, and four digs.
Jennie Ford had eight kills, two service aces, and six digs.
Xiaoyi Li had three kills, 27 assists, and three digs.
Aimee Kohler had six kills and Meghan Conner had nine digs. Rochester hit a strong .367 in the first set to secure the seven-point win.
In the Emory match, Benton had seven kills. Li had nine assists, one ace, and one block. Conner had 11 digs.
