Houghton College goaltender Shawna Sprout made two fantastic saves late in the second overtime to preserve a 0-0 tie between the Highlanders and the University of Rochester on Saturday evening.
Â
Sprout stopped senior
Jessica Smith with 1:41 to play and then stopped a head from fellow senior
Kathryn Rowe with one minute remaining to preserve Houghton's first tie of the year (12-3-1). Rochester earns its fourth draw of the year, moving to 5-5-4 on the year.
Â
In the Rochester goal,
Aubrey Jaicks made six saves, matching Sprout's total in the Houghton goal. Smith led all UR players in shots with six while classmate Grace Van der Ven shot five times. Houghton's Stephany Ellison led the Highlanders with eight shots, three of which were on net.
Â
Ellison nearly provided a would be game winning  goal six minutes into the second half. After a Rochester foul she was awarded a free kick from 25 yards out and smacked the crossbar with her hard shot. Ellison also had a great chance to end the game with a minute to go in regulation but was turned away by a Jaicks save.
Â
In the first overtime, the Highlanders' Jenny Zacchinga nearly ended it, but her shot from the left wing just skimmed the outside of the post, keeping the game scoreless.

The Yellowjackets now continue UAA conference play when they host Emory and Carnegie Mellon on Friday and Sunday in the final two home games of the season.
