UR Tops Emory, 3-1; Now Tied for First

Keith Grafmeyer scored one goal and assisted on another in an eight-minute span of the first half as the University of Rochester defeated Emory University, 3-1, at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Friday evening.

Jeff Greblick and Alex Swanger scored the other goals for UR (12-2-1, 4-1-0 UAA). Rochester is moved past Emory and into a tie for first place with Carnegie Mellon University. UR hosts Carnegie Sunday at 11 am. Emory is 10-5-1, 3-1-1 UAA.

The Yellowjackets took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. Jeff Fafinski swung a corner kick into a pack of players in the center of the goalmouth. Emory goalkeeper Abe Hannigan knocked the corner down, but right to the foot of Grafmeyer who swept it into the back of the net at 28:40.

Eight minutes later, Grafmeyer collected ball in his own half of the field and played a long pass down the right touchline. He found Greblick running in stride. Twelve yards off the endline, Greblick fired a long, low shot past the sprawling Hanningan into the lower left hand corner of the net and 36:49.

Emory broke onto the scoreboard five minutes before intermission. The Eagles had the ball in traffic at the top of the box. Jason Andrejchak hit a low shot through a tangle of legs. It deflected into the lower left hand corner at 40:18.

Another bounce nearly brought Emory level in the second half. Michael Rheaume took a low corner kick that skimmed along the end line headed for the corner of the net. Rochester goalkeeper Michael Moranz managed to parry it over the bar to yield another corner kick which the Yellowjackets were able to clear.

The clinching goal came from Swanger, his ninth of the year and marked the sixth straight game in which he has scored. Max Fan hit a blast from distance which was deflected by Emory's defense to Swanger who drove the deflection beyond the reach of Hannigan.

Moranz made three saves and allowed one goal on 10 Emory shots. Hannigan made six saves and allowed three goals on 20 Rochester shots. The Yellowjackets had 13 corner kicks to four for the Eagles.
