HENRIETTA, N.Y. – Rochester made a nice comeback in terms of serving and hitting the ball on Friday and wound up splitting two matches at the RIT Tournament. Rochester lost to St. John Fisher, 3-2, then defeated Potsdam State, 3-1.
In the first match, the Cardinals posted a 25-21 win in the opening set. Rochester hit .,444 in the second set and won, 25-13. Fisher won the third, 25-18, and Rochester won the fourth, 25-19. That set up the fifth game which the Cardinals took, 15-10. Fisher evened its record at 5-5 with the victory.
Rochester and Potsdam split their first two sets. The Yellowjackets won, 25-20, before Potsdam won, 25-18. The Yellowjackets edged the Bears, 27-25, in the third set and claimed the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.
Three women posted double figures in kills in the Fisher match. Savannah Benton had 12 as did Emma Gira. Jennie Ford had 14 kills and nine digs. Gira added three blocks. Paige Idziur had 23 digs. Xiaoyi Li had 42 assists and 11 digs.
Against Potsdam, Nina Baek led the way with 11 kills. Aimee Kohler had seven kills, four aces, 11 digs, and five blocks. Ford had seven kills and eight digs. Gira added seven kills and three blocks. Ashley Hunter had 17 digs. Li finished with 37 assists, five aces, and six digs.
The Yellowjackets were 3-8 after the two matches.
