GENEVA, NY- Sophomore Sean Daly headed in a goal with 15 minutes remaining, boosting the University of Rochester men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Hobart College on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Daly scored a goal off a corner kick from teammate Ben Keeton at 75:45 to send Rochester (4-1) to is second straight win over a Liberty League team (UR beat Clarkson 7-0 last Saturday). Hobart drops to 2-3 with the loss.
Â
The first four goals of the game came in two short bursts for the teams. Sophomore Tyler Buck got Rochester on the board first at 33:03 when he fired a shot into the left corner of the goal off a pass from freshman Jeff Greblick who leads UR in scoring through five games (3 G, 6 A).
Â
Hobart would answer four minutes later when Ryan Farrell tapped in a goal at the right post off a pass from Bernard Abagali. That goal would send the teams to the break tied at 1-1.
Â
Abagali would then set up teammate Sean Barry for a redirected header goal in the 57th minute, giving the Statesmen a 2-1 lead. But Rochester would be the team to answer this time, scoring the tying goal when junior Shane Dobles would head in a pass from Alex Swanger at 58:05.
Â
The Yellowjackets would hold the slight edge in shots (18-13) and corner kicks (7-4) with each school making seven saves on the day. Mike Moranz picked up the win in goal for Rochester while Mike Lucas was saddled with the loss for Hobart.
Â
The victory is Rochester's first in six games over Hobart, with the last win coming in 2006 by a 2-0 score (0-3-2 in that span).
Â
The Yellowjackets next take to the field on Tuesday night with a home contest against SUNY Geneseo at 7 pm.
