Strong Defense Powers Shutout Win

The University of Rochester played strong defense all night and held visiting SUNY Geneseo without a shot en route to a 3-0 victory at Fauver Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Yellowjackets (5-1) have won three in a row, outscoring opponents 13-2 during that stretch.  Geneseo drops to 2-3-1 on the year.

Rochester seemed in control all night outshooting the Knights 17-0 while holding an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

UR got its first good chance of the night when Alex Swanger earned a free kick straight on goal from about 30 yards out.  His initial shot went into the Geneseo wall and his rebound attempt was blocked as well.

Five minutes later, Swanger would get on the board first when he headed home his third goal of the year.  He received a pass off a header from senior Max Fan who was stationed at the far post where he received a corner kick from sophomore Jeff Fafinski.

The lead would double late in the half when sophomore Andrew Greenway would find the back of the net for his first of the season.  Greenway, playing in his first game of the year, dove head first at a rebound that got away from the Geneseo keeper off the foot of UR's Anthony Yarussi.

In the second half, Rochester's Shane Dobles would make the score 3-0 when he dribbled around two defenders and fired a hard strike from 25 yards into the top left corner of the net.  The tally was his third of the season.

In goal, Mike Moranz and Michael Shatkin combined on the shutout for UR.  Dan Maddock made four saves in goal for Geneseo.
