GENEVA, NY- #9 ranked William Smith handled the University of Rochester 3-0 on Saturday, using two quick goals in the second half to break open a tight game in the first round of the Upstate Collegiate Cup at William Smith College.
Madeline Buckley paced the Herons (3-1) with a goal and two assists on the day, having a hand in all three William Smith goals. Kara Shue scored the game winner in the first half and Evie Manning nabbed an insurance goal for the Herons.

#25 Rochester (3-2) had a tough time moving the ball against William Smith firing only seven total shots during the match. One found the net, but it was saved by Heron keeper Chelsea Dunay. In the Rochester net, senior Allison Bernstein made nine saves in the loss.

William Smith was able to score the opening goal in the 10th minute when Shue tapped in a cross from the right side from Buckley. UR then responded with a couple shots by Grace Van Der Ven and Anna Thornton in the next few minutes but couldn't score the equalizer. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of host William Smith at the half.

The Herons would then tack on a second goal, just over 10 minutes into the second half when Buckley scored her first of the year by finding the top left corner of the net past a lunging Bernstein. Manning would score the third WS goal at 61:09 when she found the goal with her shot from the left side of the box.

William Smith takes on the winner of the Ithaca/SUNY Cortland matchup in the Upstate Collegiate Cup while Rochester gets the loser of that game in the consolation round. Tomorrows schedule sees the consolation kick off at 1:30 with the championship taking place at 5 pm.
