Senior Day was highly successful for the women's volleyball team on Saturday morning. Both members of the Class of 2014 contributed to a pair of wins and plenty of the other players chipped in.
Rochester defeated both Allegheny College and Alfred University by 3-0 counts. The Yellowjackets defeated Allegheny in three tight matches: 27-25, 26-24, 25-22. Against Alfred, Rochester won, 25-16, 25-12, 25-21.
The two wins boosted Rochester's record to 6-13. Allegheny was 8-10 after the match. Alfred was 2-13 after its match against Rochester. In this four-team grouping, Allegheny defeated Houghton College and Houghton topped Alfred.
Savannah Benton had 11 kills to lead the effort against Alleghney.
Emma Gira had seven kills.
Jennie Ford had seven kills, 14 digs, and one service ace.
Xiaoyi Li recorded 26 assists and 12 digs.
Meghan Connor had 13 digs.
Paige Idziur, like Benton a senior, had 18 digs.
Alexandra Goldman had five kills and three blocks.
Against Alfred, Benton had 10 kills and one block. Ford had four kills, nine service aces, and 14 digs. Gira contributed seven kills and one block. Li handed out 23 assists and dug 11 balls. Connor had 14 digs. Idziur had five digs, and Goldman had three kills and three blocks.
Normally, Senior Day ceremonies are held on the date of the last home event for a sport. They are sometimes moved to accommodate other activities. Rochester's final home match in volleyball will come on Meliora Weekend.
